The focus of our new exhibition colour splash at the galerie gugging vienna is on never shown works by the three drawers Basel Al-Bazzaz, Helmut Hladisch and Karl Vondal. Two of the exhibited artists celebrate a round anniversary this April: Basel Al-Bazzaz his 50th and the Gugging Artist Karl Vondal turns 70 this year. The three colourful worlds of our three artists create a wonderful artistic potpourri that you should not miss.
Most of the works on display are by Basel Al-Bazzaz, an artist born in Baghdad, Iraq, who works in a social therapy print workshop. Over time, his drawings, which were made as print templates, have developed into completely independent works that are especially convincing for their abundance of design elements.
The works of the Gugging Artist Helmut Hladisch, who has lived in the House of Artists in Gugging since 2013, fit perfectly into this creative cosmos. Hladisch draws from memory and depicts everyday objects or other familiar things from his surroundings in his own distinctive style. We are pleased to present completely new, worth seeing, bold oil crayon works by Hladisch in the context of our new exhibition in the galerie gugging vienna.
Our trio is rounded off by the Gugging Artist Karl Vondal, who has lived and worked in the House of Artists in Gugging since 2002. His oeuvre is dominated by large-format, collage-like works on paper, created with pencil, coloured pencils and Indian ink in pastel colours. These soft hues have recently intensified and now seem even more powerful and direct with the addition of acrylic paint. In addition, you can encounter another stylistic element in his art: the assemblage. Here, pebbles, toothpicks and matches form the relief-like surface.
