Galerie Gugging

new artists

25/04/2013 - 02/06/2013

Duration: April 25 until June 2, 2013

In addition to presenting renowned artists, the gallery gugging is dedicated to promoting unknown artists. In the course of its format “new artists”, it once again makes this tradition visible. The new exhibition series will be kicked off by the works of Lejo and Alfred Neumayr, which will be shown for the first time.

Lejo has been buying photographs from estates since the early 1990s and in 2007 began to make collages from the up to one hundred year old memorabilia of strangers. His poetic works refer to the nameless origins of the photos left behind and, as a mirror of society, tell of the fashions of the respective time. They captivate with their subtle approach, their formal sophistication and their discreetly ironic humour.

Alfred Neumayr, who has been visiting the open studio gugging since 2011, produces large-format, finely worked-out drawings. He experiments with various feathers and inks, applies, scrapes off, dilutes or mixes them until the pictures seem to come to life through the rhythmic structures created in the process. The works are reminiscent of geological formations, photographs from outer space, fantasy worlds or mythical creatures, and fascinate by their consistently small-scale examination of the large surface.

We are very much looking forward to this exhibition and to welcoming you here. Visit us and let us inspire you!
