Born in 1937 in Klagenfurt, Krawagna is a prominent representative of Austrian nature abstraction. He lives and works in Krumpendorf am Wörthersee. From 1953 to 1957, he studied at the Art School in Linz under Herbert Dimmel, and from 1957 to 1961 he continued his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Herbert Boeckl. In 1963–64, he attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In his expressively abstract paintings – created using oil, gouache, or mixed media – Krawagna distills everyday motifs such as light reflections, landscapes, or stacked objects into delicate color spaces. With sparingly applied charcoal lines, he evokes atmosphere, movement, and fleeting moments of light in a poetic interplay of color and line. Even at an advanced age, he continues to work in his studio daily and is exhibited internationally.
