Starting June 25, 2025, Stift Melk will be showing selected works from Hannah Rieger’s renowned collection in its Kaisergang under the title “Art Brut in the Kaisergang.” The exhibition brings together works by over 25 international Art Brut artists, including Johann Hauser, Misleidys Castillo Pedroso, Ida Buchmann, Laila Bachtiar, and Josef Wittlich, whose portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph visually dominates the show.
The opening will take place on Wednesday, June 25, at 7 p.m., with a welcome and blessing by Father Ludwig Wenzl OSB and an introduction by curator Hans Hoffer and collector Hannah Rieger. The artists Laila Bachtiar and Michaela Polacek will be present.
The exhibition runs until September 1, 2025, and is accessible as part of regular tours of the monastery. An accompanying online catalog is available at: www.livinginartbrut.com.
