In this anniversary year, the gallery gugging dedicates itself to one of the most important Gugging Artists: Oswald Tschirtner, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. We combine works by Tschirtner with the Cuban artist Misleidys Castillo Pedroso. Her artworks can be found in public and private collections.
The idea was born in March 2019 in the office of my colleague Christian Berst and we are very pleased that we have now been able to realise it.
“The two artists are separated by 65 years, many thousands of kilometres as well as their very individual artistic formal language, and yet they are connected with each other in a very special way”, says Nina Katschnig. While Misleidys Castillo Pedroso creates kind of a private mythology from an isolated position, Oswald Tschirtner’s works have always been created only on request in the presence of a second – first Dr. Navratil, then Dr. Feilacher.
These two artistic personalities come together in an interesting and stimulating, almost complementary way, in the exhibition “… powerful female – delicate male …“ from March 12 until May 29, 2020. See and feel the power that emanates from the respective works and explore both the common and the contradictory aspects of the two artistic positions.
