Basel Al-Bazzaz was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1973 and has lived in Austria since 1990. He has been working in a social therapy print workshop since 2000. Al-Bazzaz creates intricate, detailed paper works featuring ornate motifs that have a special effect on the viewer. According to the artist, creating artworks using watercolours, pencil and coloured pencils is his passion and brings him the greatest joy. He values his life in Austria, yet he longs for the Orient, a sentiment that is also reflected in his works. The artist draws inspiration mainly from nature and from great artistic figures such as Frida Kahlo. His works are held in private collections.
