Martín Ramírez was born in 1895 in Tepatitlán, Mexico, and died in 1963. Ramírez created bizarre fantasy landscapes constructed from lines and populated them with memories from his past, including caballeros, Madonnas, and trains. Delicate hatching gives depth to his predominantly hilly panoramas with their tunnels and arcades. In 1925, he emigrated from Mexico to California. His works were first shown in small exhibitions during the 1950s. They are now held in the American Folk Art Museum, USA, MoMA, USA, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Spain.
