2024 is the year of Leopold Strobl. After the artist was personally selected by curator Adriano Pedrosa for the exhibition Foreigners Everywhere during this year’s 60th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, the master of shapes and light is returning to his hometown of Poysdorf in October for the second time since 2017 with a solo exhibition at Weingut Taubenschuss. It’s a homecoming that the likeable artist with the bushy beard is particularly pleased about, as Strobl has remained grounded and down to earth despite the highs of recent years.
Nobody could have predicted this success story when galerie gugging director Nina Katschnig presented the artist to the public for the first time in 2016 as part of the exhibition “locomotives beneath a green sky” in her gallery. Within just a few years, Leopold Strobl was not only purchased by the MoMA in New York for its collection, he is now also presented in partner galleries in Paris and New York and can be found in important collections at home and abroad. The fact that Strobl can be admired at the 60th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, which is open until November 24, 2024, in the 30th anniversary year of the galerie gugging was also the inspiration for his home exhibition at Weingut Taubenschuss.
The exhibition will officially be opened on October 21, 2024, at 6 pm with an opening in the personal presence of the mayor of Poysdorf, David Jilli, and the artist Leopold Strobl himself. It will then be on display at Weingut Taubenschuss until January 12, 2025.
