A crowning finale to this year’s “gallery gugging special edition” concert series and a wonderful opportunity to get actively into the mood for the contemplative Advent season. On Sunday, December 3, a unique gospel workshop will take place in the Villa Gugging, including a large closing concert under the direction of the American composer, conductor, singer, voice trainer, choir & ensemble leader Dr. James E. Moore.
After receiving his doctorate from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music University in 1979, Moore directed and conducted numerous choirs in subsequent years, worked as musical director of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Zion Baptist Church in Cincinnati, and became assistant professor of music and liturgy at the Athenaeum in Ohio. In addition, James Moore conducted the Athenaeum Choir, which he co-founded, until he finally moved to Vienna in 1984. There he deepened his studies as a conductor and still works today as a professional voice coach, private voice trainer and trainer for prospective conductors.
His concert tours and popular workshops have taken James Moore around the globe, from the Fiji Islands to Turkey, Italy, Ireland, Germany and Austria, to full church and concert halls. In recent years he has worked as a lecturer and conductor of a gospel choir at the Vokalsommerakademie in Eisenstadt.
James Moore’s compositions such as “Taste and See” or “An Irish Blessing” are world famous and his workshops and concerts are a very special experience for people who enjoy singing. More than forty compositions by James Moore are currently published and available – including his great work, the German-language mass “Tief in mir”, a commission by the diocese of Graz-Seckau. Numerous newer works that have been created in the course of various workshops over the last few years have not yet been published.
