house of artists

The House of Artists is the origin of art from Gugging, as Gugging artists have lived in this building since 1981. The House of Artists is a work of art in itself: the façade is painted with murals by internationally successful Gugging Artists such as Johann Garber, Philipp Schöpke, Oswald Tschirtner, August Walla and others. Inside is the room of the universal artist August Walla, covered from ceiling to floor with paintings, Johann Garber’s workshop and the artists’ living quarters. The House of Artists is at once a work of art, a contemporary document and a testimony of appropriation.

museum gugging

Conceived as an exhibition venue for the Gugging Artists and the Art Brut movement, the museum gugging shows works by the Gugging Artists at the place where they were created and is also a forum for international Art Brut. With this orientation, the museum gugging occupies a unique position in the Austrian museum landscape and is one of the most important exhibition venues for Art Brut internationally. The aims of the museum are to present the Gugging Artists and to establish Art Brut as an international art movement, and it places particular emphasis on modern and approachable art education. Exhibitions at the museum are put together by the artistic director and renowned curators from Austria and abroad.
