Ketscher, born 1942 in Gera, is one of the most significant representatives of the Leipzig School and Fantastic Realism. After studying at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig under Wolfgang Mattheuer and Bernhard Heisig, he created a multilayered body of work between surreal dreamscapes and narrative density. What Ketscher shares with the artists in COMICS brut – among them Hannes Lehner, Manuel Griebler & Didier Kassaï – is a common origin: the comic as an early source of inspiration:
